Winners at the Press Photographer’s Year 2008
Congratulations to Gareth Copley and Andrew Parsons who both won prizes at the Press Photographer’s Year 2008. The competition showcases the very best press photography taken from and used by the UK Media in each year.
Gareth Copley won first prize in the Sports Specialist Folio with his coverage of cricket around the world this year. Andrew Parsons won first prize in the Live News with his picture of soldiers in Helmand province, Afghanistan.
A further seven Press Association photographers will have photographs featured in the book, Assignments 3 – The Press Photographer’s Year. The photographs were taken by Cathal McNaughton, Steve Parsons, Anthony Devlin, Niall Carson, Rui Vieira, Martin Rickett and Mike Egerton.

The book will be launched at an accompanying exhibition in July at the Royal National Theatre in London.
Over 7,500 entries were submitted across 13 different categories.
