Martin Keene receives MVO from the Queen

Martin Keene, Group Picture Editor received his Member of The Royal Victorian Order (MVO) in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace on 6th December.

He described it as one of the proudest days of his life.

"It was more stressful than taking any picture", he added after receiving his accolade at the investiture ceremony.

"The Queen said 'You've been doing it a long time'. I explained I was on the road for 10 years as a photographer and went on some of her fantastic tours.

"I've had the most brilliant time doing this job. I have been so, so lucky.

"This is one of the proudest days of my life."

His award is in the Queen's personal gift and is bestowed independently of Downing Street.

Martin began working as a photographer at the Herald Express in Torquay, Devon, in his early 20s, before joining PA in 1986.

He spent nine years as a PA photographer including five years as royal photographer.

He photographed the Queen on her historic trips to Moscow and South Africa, Diana, Princess of Wales, as she sat alone outside the Taj Mahal, and the Duchess of York trekking to Mount Everest.

He was appointed picture editor in 1995 and group picture editor last year.

He led pictorial coverage during momentous events in royal history including the death of Diana and the funeral of the Queen Mother.

The Royal Victorian Order recognises service to the Royal Family and household.
